Title1891 Southern University Farm
SubjectAgricultural facilities--Louisiana
Southern University and A & M College--Buildings
DescriptionThe Agricultural school was established in October, 1891. The first superintendent was Board member, Professor Hugh Jamison, Jr., who was married and had several children, and served from August 21, 1890, until his death in 1899. The clearing of the land, and preparation by fertilizing occupied the early month, but eventually livestock and equipment were purchased, and within two years after taking over, the agricultural location was purchased. The department became a member of the Agricultural Association in late June 1895.
