revival

debating
activities
was
celebrated
by
five
members
of the
South
Central
Association
of
Colleges
for
Negro
Youth
. The
subject
of the
question
was-Resolved
: "That
Great
Britain
Should
Give
India
Complete
and
Immediate
Independence.
"
Southern
entertained
the
Straight
College
Negative
Team
,
while
the
Negative
Team
of
Southern
University
engaged
the
Affirmative
of
Alcorn
College
of
Mississippi
.
Both
of the
Southern
teams
were
successful
;
each
winning
the
unanimous
decision
of the
judges
. The
argument
of the
Affirmative
was
invincible
,
logical
and
superbly
delivered
; and the
rebuttal
by
Miss
Malarcher
was as
destructive
to the
argument
of the
opponent
as was her
style
humorous
to the
audience
. The
Southern
University
Negative
team
was
composed
of
Jerome
Johnson
,
Jackson
Davis
and with
Miss
Zola
Amond
as
alternate
. The
only
other
school
in the
conference
to
score
a
double
victory
in the
debate
was
New
Orleans
College
,
which
won
a
two
to
one
decision
from
Leland
College
and a
unanimous
decision
from
Alcorn
College
.
Since
Southern
won
unanimous
decisions
in
both
debates
, and
no
other
school
did
,
Southern
rightfully
takes
her
place
as
leader
of the
League
.
