The
rapid
trend
toward
the
application
of
technology
to
farming
was
revolutionizing
the
agriculture
industry
.
It
was
becoming
difficult
for those
farmers
who
,
unacquainted
with
modern
farm
practices
,
continue
to
use
traditional
farm
practices
to
compete
successfully
in the
agriculture
economy
. In an
effort
to
narrow
the
gap
between
modern
farm
practices
and
practices
in
Louisiana
,
Southern
University
through
its
agriculture
division
focused
its
attention
on
improving
proficiency
in
farming
. The
Annual
Livestock
and
Poultry
Show
was
planned
to
stimulate
greater
interest
in
increasing
the
production
of
poultry
,
dairy
cattle
,
beef
cattle
, and
swine
in the
state
and to
improve
the
standard
of
living
in the
farm
areas
of
Louisiana
.
