Description	The Baton Rouge Academy, an institution sponsored by the Fourth District Missionary Baptist Association of Louisiana for black boys and girls. In 1892, a suggestion was made that the Fourth District Association purchase a tract of land for erecting a Denominational School. The suggestion was accepted and plans were made accordingly. On May 21, 1892, the committee of the fourth district association met in the city of Baton Rouge and purchased the tract of land known as the O'Connor Tract, located on what was then called, the Perkins Road. The doors of this school first opened for admittance to students on September 23, 1893 with Professor J. L Croosley, as the first principal. Dr. Joseph S. Clark, principal, third row standing far end on the right in dark suit.
