Title	1834 Fleet's Plantation House
Subject	Campus Buildings; Virginia Normal and Collegiate Institute
Description	Built for the owner of the Fleet Farm in 1834. The building became known as the Griffin House, after John Griffin bought the tract in 1879. It was purchased for Virginia Normal and Collegiate Institute in 1882. It was converted into the main building for the new institute, and the first classes were held on opening day October 1, 1883. Later, the building was renamed Colson Hall in honor of James Major Colson who was the first science professor.
