Description	Miner frequently assumed the leadership during the period 1930-1950 in initiating the study of education and other community problems. Annual conferences were sponsored in cooperation with local educational organizations, to study these matters. Among the problems studied were the housing needs of African Americans, the elementary curriculum, the functional reading program of the elementary school and the impact of coordinated community action on education. These meetings ere generally attended by large numbers of local teachers, school officials, and other citizens from the Washington community.
