Subject	District Of Columbia Teachers College Seals (Numismatics) -- Washington (D.C.) -- District Of Columbia Teachers College
Description	Pursuant to the US Supreme Court decision in Brown v. Board of Education (1954), the DC Board of Education merged Miner Teachers College and Wilson Teachers College to form DC Teachers College. Both Miner and Wilson were two viable colleges, so their combination represented a strong program of teacher education for DC. Since Miner Teachers College and Wilson Teachers College merged to form DCTC, the seals of the two schools were combined. Dr. Henry W. Olson designed the seal. “The Lamp of knowledge” was the symbol of both schools and the “Book of Learning” came from the Wilson seal. The three stars from the flag of the District of Columbia are on the seal to indicate the location and support of the school. The pen signifies the creative activities of the students and faculty of DCTC. The motto, “The End Crowns the Work” came from the Wilson seal.
