The journal was published by the Virginia Normal and Collegiate Institute Alumni Association. This was the first journal edited by a female, Miss Mabel A. Harris, a 1889 Normal School graduate.

Mabel Harris was in the class of 1889. She taught in the Petersburg Public Schools and was very active in the Alumni Association, and held a number of positions over the years. 1898 she became the first female editor of the Alumni Journal.
