FOUNDER'S DAY ADDRESS March 9, 1937 REORGANIZATION: Southern University was re-organized by an Act of Legislature in 1912, under the leadership of Gov. Luther E. Hall, whose picture now hangs on the left wall of the auditorium. FIGHT IN THE LEGISLATURE: The cause which lead to the establishment of this in- stitution was advanced through an annual message of mine, when I was president of the Louisiana Colored Teachers Association in 1909. MY METHOD OF PROCEDURE:My Method of procedure was to follow my recommendation with the appointment of a Committee to call on the Legislature and lay the “cause of higher education" and the need for a state institution before the Body.
