Entered at the Atlanta, Ga., post office as second class mail matter. Subscriptions at 25 cents a year may Be sent to the treasurer of Atlanta University, Atlanta, Ga. Atlanta University, Atlanta, Ga., Mas 650 students in College, Normal, College Preparatory, Grammar, and Primary departments, with practical instruction in wood-working, iron-working, farming, printing, cooking, sewing, and nursing, under the care of 28 officers and instructors, in four large brick buildings, surrounded by 60 acres of land within the corporate limits of Atlanta, the land, buildings, and, outfit valued at a, quarter of a million dollars; with 200 graduates from College and Normal courses nearly all of whom, together with many hundreds of past undergraduates, are engaged in teaching and other useful work in Georgia and surrounding States.                        Having practically no endowment, the Institution requires at least $18,000 a year in donations from its friends to continue the work now in hand, and a fund of about $250,000 to put that work on a permanent basis. We are informed that 31 out of 36 teachers in the Atlanta colored public; schools are from Atlanta University. ------------•-----------— The present number of The Bulletin is the last number that will be issued till the beginning' of the school year, in October. ------------»------------ A typographical error in our last makes the special donations for the printing press for the year $368.03, instead of $268.03. With what was .contributed last year, the sum now amounts to $382.44. In anticipation of the full amount needed ($400.00) being raised, we have for some months had a press on trial and have lately agreed to keep it. The press is a Wharfdale Cylinder, from the Atlanta Constitution office, in good condition and cost, originally, $2,200. It will not only serve for all present purposes, but also give us facilities for enlargement of the field of our printing department which we may anticipate in the future. It will be seen that there is needed but $17.56 to complete the purchase, and we would be glad if we might receive this amount, from any one or more of those especially interested in this object, before long, and thus be enabled to close up the transaction. The kind interest exhibited in this special object by different friends is greatly appreciated, and it is with great satisfaction that we are able to announce that we have come into the possession of this important piece of equipment. -------------------------------------------------------•-----------------------------------------------------¦ OUR TWENTY-FIRST YEAR. Our twenty-first year closes under decidedly favorable circumstances. It has been a year of unprecedentedly large attendance, of exemption from any serious illness among teachers and students— a marked contrast, in this respect, to the previous year, in which two teachers and  three   students   were   removed   by death—a  year in  which  uniform good order and a general spirit of sympathy with   proper   authority   has   prevailed throughout the school, in which excellent work  has  been  done  by   teachers   and students,  and a   year   which   has   been marked by large religious interest. Financially, the year has been  more prosperous than the last, which  left us burdened with $10,000 debt.    There was a prospect,  some   time ago,  of a large deficiency, but the response of friends to special appeals has reduced the amount to  a  comparatively small sum and we hope for such further   responses yet to come as to make up the amount still need- . ed. Will not friends who have not already done  so, contribute without delay for this purpose ?    With this sum made up, the deficiency of $10,000 incurred last year still remains to be provided for, President Bumstead's severe and protracted 0 illness having came in to thwart his efforts to raise this amount, in addition to the amount needed for current expenses. This illness, with its resulting disadvantages, together with President Bumstead's enforced absence, have been the only untoward events of the year. But we are glad to be able to say that President Bumstead is now convalescent, and be- fore the fall term begins—perhaps a good while before—it is hoped he will be able to resume his work with his old time energy and devotion, though tempered, his associates trust, with a discretion which will lead him to spare himself more. Meantime, we would suggest that the sooner his friends, and those of this Institution, contribute toward the making up of this $10,000, the speedier will be his complete recovery, the longer the rest he so much needs, and the stronger-hearted all connect"d with this Institution for the great work in which they are engaged. We confidently hope and anticipate being furnished the means with which to do an even better work next year than we have this.
